A South Korea tourist eSIM can include a Korean mobile number, but not every travel eSIM does. On BambooSIM’s current SKT phone-enabled eSIM, the number appears with the voucher, mobile data works before passport verification, and calls and texts start only after verification. Incoming domestic calls and texts are then free; outgoing calls and SMS require recharge.
Important limitation: a tourist number is not the same as a resident identity-verified line. SKT says its tourist eSIM cannot be used for personal-authentication services or payment-verification SMS. Buy it for normal calls, texts, callbacks and forms—not banking or resident account verification.

Many travellers can manage a Korea trip using data apps only. A Korean number becomes useful when you want ordinary local callbacks, need to contact an accommodation or complete a form that accepts a tourist number.
| Task | Does a tourist number help? | Caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Receive a normal call after verification | Yes | caller may need the Korean format |
| Receive an ordinary SMS after verification | Yes | not every automated sender accepts tourist lines |
| Make an outgoing call | Yes | recharge is required |
| Enter a Korean number on a hotel or booking form | Often | the business may still require a callback |
| Create a resident-verified financial or identity account | No | SKT excludes personal-authentication and payment-verification use |
| Use maps, translation and app messaging | Not required | a data-only eSIM is enough |
SKT documents these voice/SMS and identity limitations on its official tourist eSIM page.
For eSIM buyers, the number is visible early because it is included with the QR code details sent by email. That lets you record the number before you arrive.
For pickup SIM buyers, the number is tied to the physical handover process and can be confirmed after collection at the airport desk.
Neither path means calls and SMS are live before authentication. The line must pass passport authentication before voice and text can be used.
The SKT tourist product is for foreign nationals and is not sold to Republic of Korea passport holders. Enter passport details manually when prompted; the official online flow asks for identity details rather than a passport photo upload.
SKT allows passport verification for one product per passport. If two eligible travellers both need verified SKT numbers, each should use their own passport.
Some cases may require in-person verification at an SK Telecom Roaming Desk. Carry the physical passport, especially if you plan to rely on calls or SMS soon after landing.
Incoming domestic calls and texts are free after verification under SKT’s official tourist eSIM terms. Outgoing calls and texts use recharge credit, available through SKRoaming online or at SK Telecom Roaming Desks. BambooSIM does not provide an API-based recharge flow for SKT voice/SMS credit.
Balance alerts are sent by SMS when you recharge, below 1,000 KRW, and when the balance runs out. Real-time balance is available at skroaming.com.
Choose the eSIM if your phone supports eSIM and you want the number details before travel. Choose the pickup SIM if you need a physical SIM and are comfortable collecting at Incheon Airport Terminal 1, Incheon Airport Terminal 2, Gimhae Airport, or Gimpo Airport.
