Which APN should I use for Japan Unlimited 5G eSIMs?

Browse BambooSIM support articles about Which APN should I use for Japan Unlimited 5G eSIMs?, including setup, troubleshooting, billing help, and account..

Your Japan Unlimited 5G eSIM should normally configure APN settings automatically once installed and activated. It may appear as KDDI or au in your phone settings rather than BambooSIM; this is normal.

Manual APN settings are the final troubleshooting step. Before changing the APN:

  1. Confirm the eSIM is turned on and selected for Mobile/Cellular Data.
  2. Temporarily turn off other SIMs/eSIMs.
  3. Leave network selection on Automatic.
  4. Cycle Aeroplane Mode and restart the device.
  5. Confirm the plan is active and you are in Japan with signal.

Only if mobile data still does not work after all of those checks should you try the manual settings below.

1. Recommended 5G APN (primary settings)

Use this APN first. This is the main 5G-capable APN for Japan Unlimited eSIMs:

APN name:
uad5gn.au-net.ne.jp

Username:
[email protected]

Password:
au

Authentication type:
CHAP

You can usually leave all other fields (MCC, MNC, APN type, proxy, port, etc.) as their defaults unless your device requires them.

2. 4G-Only Fallback APN

If you still can’t use data after setting the 5G APN above, switch to this 4G-only APN and test again.

APN:
uno.au-net.ne.jp

Username:
[email protected]

Password:
KpyrR6BP

Authentication type:
CHAP

Use this APN exactly as written.

3. Tethering / Hotspot Note (“APN type”)

On some devices, tethering / hotspot won’t work unless you adjust the APN type.

If your device shows an “APN type” field:

  1. Do not delete the existing values (e.g. default, supl or similar).
  2. Simply append ,dun to whatever is already there.

For example:

  • If your APN type is:
    • default,supl
  • Change it to:
    • default,supl,dun

If there are other strings already in APN type, just add ,dun to the end without removing anything.

Depending on the model, ,dun may not be added automatically even when APN is set up by the system, so setting it manually can fix tethering on some devices.

4. After saving a manual APN

If data still isn’t working after setting the APN:

  • Confirm Mobile Data is still assigned to the Japan eSIM.
  • Toggle Aeroplane Mode on and off.
  • Restart the device after saving the APN.
  • Try the 5G APN first, then the 4G fallback APN if needed.
  • Double-check for typos in APN, username, or password—they must match exactly.
