Work through these checks in order. Do not delete the eSIM while troubleshooting.
1. Find the installed eSIM
Open Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular and find the installed eSIM. Its name is not necessarily BambooSIM; a Japan eSIM may appear as KDDI or au.
2. Check an earlier installation attempt
If a QR code cannot be used after an earlier attempt, check the full eSIM list first. The eSIM may already be installed, usually near the bottom if it is the newest one.
3. Select it for cellular data
Turn the eSIM on, select it for cellular data, temporarily turn off other SIMs/eSIMs, and leave network selection on Automatic.
4. Apply the correct settings
Check the exact product name in the order:
- Legacy eSIM whose instructions specify
globaldata: turn Data Roaming on and set both APN Name and APN toglobaldata. - Viettel, MobiFone, Japan KDDI, South Korea SKT Unlimited, and Australia Vodafone: leave the APN on Automatic. Data Roaming is not required, although leaving it on is harmless.
- All other travel eSIMs: turn Data Roaming on and leave the APN on Automatic.
5. Refresh the connection
Turn Aeroplane Mode on for around 10 seconds, then off. Restart the device if needed.
Do not use globaldata unless the installation instructions for your eSIM explicitly require it.
If the issue continues, please submit a ticket with the product name, device model, current country, and screenshots of the Cellular settings.
